CSRD Reporting in Cyprus: Scope, Timeline, and Local Practicalities

Cyprus transposed into national law via amendments to the Companies Law (Cap. 113). Roughly 40 Cypriot entities fall into Wave 1 or Wave 2, plus a long tail of subsidiaries consolidated into EU parents.

This guide is the local operator's cut of the EU directive — where the standard bites and where local practice differs.

Which Cypriot entities are in scope

Wave 1 (FY2024): large public-interest entities >500 employees. Includes major listed banks and select shipping groups.

Wave 2 (FY2025): other large Cypriot companies meeting two of three thresholds (>250 employees, >€50m turnover, >€25m balance sheet).

Wave 3 (FY2026): listed Cypriot SMEs on the CSE, with a two-year opt-out to FY2028.

Filing and language conventions

Reports filed with the Registrar of Companies as part of the annual management report. Greek or English is accepted for most filings; large listed entities typically file bilingually.

Digital tagging (XBRL) is required from year one of scope, aligned to the EU-wide ESEF schema.

VSME (voluntary standard for SMEs)

Not in scope of CSRD, but VSME is the recommended framework for value-chain requests.

Applicability is our best estimate based on published EU thresholds; consult your auditor for a formal determination.

Sector deep-dives

Shipping: overlap with EU MRV and IMO reporting; auditors expect reconciliation between operational and disclosure figures.

Banking and insurance: Pillar 3 , ECB climate stress tests, and form a triangle. Consolidate the data model.

Hospitality: energy and water are the material topics; sub-metering per property is now standard practice.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which authority supervises CSRD in Cyprus?

Can I file in Greek only?

Domestic filings, yes. Cross-border groups typically file bilingually for stakeholder consistency.

Is EU data residency required?

Not by CSRD itself. GDPR and Cypriot data protection rules typically drive EU-only storage for reporting data.
